From Friday evening June 30th till July 2nd the Fryske Curlingclub MoTip Dupli will organize the 4th International Summer Trophy. Again 16 teams will battle for the honours. Defending champion is the team from CC Unna in Germany. Home team FCMD Heerenveen will compete with a men’s team as well as a women’s team. We still have a few open spots so join us. On june 29th in Thialf the very first official Frisian Championship of curling will take place. It will be a mix of experienced and rookie curlers. Never played! No problem, before the games start there will be an elaborate training to learn the basic skills. So join as a team of four people and play for the prizes. Last weekend in Luxembourg the Coupe de l’Amitié was held. This traditional closer of the Benelux’ curling season was won by the mixed Belgian/Dutch team of Reg Wiebe, Walter Verbueken, Willem Pronk and Ingrid Wiebe. For the Fryske Curlingclub Jeroen vd Stroom (8th place) and Chris van Rosmalen (13th place) took part.

Sunday the team from Scotland became World Champions in Curling for the fourth time in history. In Lowell Massachusetts USA the Canadian team was beaten in a dramatical final.

The Swedish ladies became the World Champions in Grande Prairie Canada. They defeated the USA in an exiting final: 10-9. Canada got the bronze medal. The Dutch Ladies finally became 12th. They competed in the Worlds for the first time in years after a huge result at the Europeans, finishing as 7th and qualifying for the WCC. In the Dutch team played Idske de Jong of our Fryske Curlingclub. She made her debut in the Dutch team during the EEC in Garmisch.

The Utrecht team of Reg Wiebe, Steven van der Cammen, Christiaan Offringa and Greg Dunn qualified for the ECC in Switzerland december 2006. In the Superleague best-of-five final they won 3-1 against the PWA-Zoetermeer team of Mark Neeleman, Gus van Imhoff, Rob Vilain and Laurens vd Windt. Third place was for the Praxis Hammerheads team from Utrecht. Playing were Mark Rurup, Marcel Rijkes, Michael Rainger and Jeroen Vermeulen. Fourth place finishers were the debuting team of CC Tilburg. Next year a Heerenveen team will compete also.

Despite a 4-5 loss against the Ladies team FCMD1 became NCL Club champions for the fourth time in a row. Playing were Chris van Rosmalen, Jeroen van der Stroom, Jerry van der Werf and Kasper Smedeman.
